VISCOFLUX

Drum Emptying Systems

Drum emptying systems are used wherever high-viscosity media need to be emptied continuously and gently from lidded drums. VISCOFLUX systems achieve a residual quantity of less than 1% in the drum.

VISCOFLUX lite is suitable for higher-viscosity media that are just barely flowable, while VISCOFLUX mobile S also handles highly viscous, non-self-flowing media—on a mobile, wheeled process unit.

Applications and Uses

VISCOFLUX mobile S

Mobile solution for highly viscous, non-self-flowing media.

VISCOFLUX lite

For pumping higher-viscosity fluids that are barely flowable

VISCOFLUX lite Ex

Pumping of high-viscosity fluids in Zone 0/1 hazardous areas.

Overview

VISCOFLUX drum emptying systems are based on FLUX eccentric screw pumps with a follow-up plate and process seal. The follow-up plate descends onto the medium due to negative pressure—the flexible process seal prevents medium from remaining on the drum wall.

All systems achieve a residual volume of less than 1% in ISO-lidded drums and handle viscosities up to 500,000 mPas.

Less than 1% remaining

Nearly complete emptying of the barrel – maximum utilization of raw materials

Up to 500,000 mPas

High-viscosity to non-self-flowing media (up to grease class 3)

Gentle handling

VISCOPOWER eccentric screw pumps deliver low-shear, low-turbulence flow that preserves the structure of the material

Mobile to the Barrel

VISCOFLUX Mobile S can be transported to the job site without a crane or forklift and can replace several stationary units.

Easy to Clean

Stainless steel process unit (IP 66) that can be cleaned with a water jet. The motor, pump, backing plate, and process seal can be quickly removed.

Explosion-proof versions available

Drum Emptying in Practice

Applications in the industrial, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food production sectors demonstrate how FLUX drum emptying systems efficiently support processes.

Tomato paste concentrate is hygienic and has a residual moisture content of less than 1%

VISCOFLUX mobile S pumps FDA-compliant, triple-concentrated tomato paste from conical drums with in-line liners—with residual levels of less than 1%.

Automatic and virtually complete filling of industrial greases

VISCOFLUX lite, equipped with an F 550 S eccentric screw pump, enables the automatic filling of high-viscosity industrial greases from ISO drum containers.

Hygienic Dispensing of High-Viscosity Ointments

Hygienically transfer ointments and creams from 200-liter drums—with VISCOPOWER and VISCOFLUX mobile S.

Efficiently Filling Vaseline from Barrels

High-viscosity petroleum jelly is metered using VISCOFLUX mobile S through a heated line and reliably filled into mixing tanks.

VISCOFLUX pumps fluids with viscosities up to 500,000 mPas

Knowledge and Technology

Selecting the right VISCOFLUX system depends on the viscosity of the medium, the drum type, and the requirements for mobility and cleanability. The following sections explain the sequential plate principle and the differences between VISCOFLUX lite and mobile S.

VISCOFLUX Drum Emptying Systems

VISCOFLUX drum emptying systems operate using a follow-up plate that is placed on top of the material in the lidded drum. As the FLUX eccentric screw pump conveys the material, it creates a vacuum beneath the follow-up plate—causing the plate to lower and follow the falling liquid level. The flexible process seal at the edge conforms to the drum wall, ensuring that virtually no material is left behind.

The pump, follow-up plate, and drive can be combined

The material is conveyed in a hermetically sealed manner—with minimal shear and turbulence, and without contact with ambient air. VISCOFLUX lite uses a pump centering crossbar for ISO lidded drums and can be installed in minutes.

VISCOFLUX mobile S is a self-contained system on a mobile process unit with battery-powered lifting—for varying drum types and the highest viscosities. The pump, motor, follow-up plate, and process seal are individually designed to suit the medium and process conditions.

The maximum flow rate is a test bench value, measured with water at 20 °C at the pump’s discharge port, without accessories (hose, dispensing nozzle, flow meter). The flow rate that can be achieved in practice is lower and depends on the specific application, the properties of the fluid, and the pump configuration. Specifications are for an axial rotor, unless otherwise noted.
