Hygienic and nearly complete conveyance of tomato paste concentrate

Nearly complete drum emptying for food
processing: The VISCOFLUX mobile S conveys FDA-compliant, triple-concentrated tomato paste from conical drums with inliners, leaving residual amounts of less than 1%.

Solution

The Challenge

Triple-concentrated tomato paste must be hygienically transferred from conical tanks with inliners into containers or holding tanks. A FOOD/FDA-compliant solution for the food processing operation is required.

Large remaining quantities

High-viscosity fluid may remain on the drum wall and the inliner. The process therefore requires the drum to be emptied almost completely.

Hygenic transferring

The application requires a FOOD/FDA conforming solution that pumps the medium reliably and cleanly throughout the process.

Complex barrel geometry

Conical drums, corrugations and any dents caused during transport require a flexible sealing solution during emptying.

The solution:

VISCOFLUX mobile S with F 580 S

The VISCOFLUX mobile S mobile drum emptying system consists of a process unit, a pump unit with a helical gear motor, an F 580 S FOOD progressive cavity pump, and a follow-up plate with a process seal. Thanks to flexible chassis adjustment, the system can be maneuvered up to a 4-drum pallet, allowing four drums to be emptied one after another. Vacuum, the process seal, and automatic decoupling ensure the conveying process continues even in the event of interruptions.

Process Flow

Four steps to nearly complete emptying.

1. Lower the pump unit

The pump unit is lowered using the battery-powered lift arm until the follower plate rests on the medium.

2. Start the transferring programme

Once the engine has started, the progressive cavity pump begins to draw in fluid. The resulting vacuum keeps the follower plate in contact with the medium during extraction.

3. Seal the medium hermetically

The process seal hermetically seals off the medium even when flow is interrupted and adapts flexibly to ridges and any dents caused during transport.

4. Unscrew and clean the drum

Once the drum has been emptied, compressed air dislodges the follower plate from the bottom of the drum. The IP-66 system is then cleaned with a powerful jet of water.

The seal conforms to every contour

The flexible process seal adapts to corrugations and any dents caused during transport. This ensures that the medium remains hermetically sealed even during interruptions in the flow, while virtually no product is left behind on the drum wall or the liner.
