Application descriptions

Metering precise quantities of mineral oils; removal from IBCs

Task:
It is to be possible to fill a wide variety of oils into the extruder using a metering device – with quantity presetting.

Customer's requirements:
- Metering accuracy: +/- 1%
- Flow rate: 60 l/min
- Delivery pressure: 1 bar

Solution:
Drum pump F 430 S with mechanical seal
Commutator motor F 457
Flow meter FMO 110
Evaluation electronic FLUXTRONIC®
Switched-mode amplifier
Solenoid valve
Float switch
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
From a drum pump, a flow meter and the FLUXTRONIC® evaluation electronic, FLUX has assembled an individually configurable filling system that offers a customised solution for the customer's specific requirements.

After presetting the desired quantity, the F 430 S drum pump with the mechanical seal is started in the IBC by a push of the button on the FLUXTRONIC® evaluation electronic. When the set quantity has been reached, the drum pump automatically switches off (batch mode). The FLUX switched-mode amplifier FSV 100 handles the switching on and off.

Another IBC is present above the IBC with the metering device. Its solenoid valve opens by way of the float switch as soon as a minimum level has been reached. This ensures that the IBC with the metering device is always automatically refilled. Additional advantage: The IBC is permanently integrated into the system and does not have to be replaced.

We would be pleased to configure a filling system to meet your requirements.

Removal of formic acid from IBCs

Task:
Formic acid is to be filled from IBCs into small drums. This is done in preproduction for producing speciality chemicals for sealing systems and marking materials in the construction field.

The following problems had to be solved:
- Removal of only small quantities from the IBCs
- Medium dripped out after removal via a ball valve
- No power connection on site for a corded drum pump

Solution:
Drum pump COMBIFLUX FP 314
Battery motor FBM-B 3100
Hose with pump nozzle and drip preventer
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
For this problem, the small COMBIFLUX FP 314 drum pump with a battery-driven motor is ideal, and is also extremely well-suited for small filling quantities. The COMBIFLUX is simply inserted into the IBC – and the removal can be started.

The FBM-B 3100 battery-operated motor can be removed from the pump tube without problems via the quick coupler. This makes it possible to leave the "pump tubes" in several containers and couple the motor only where medium is actually supposed to be removed. A procedure that makes particular sense when different types of media are being used, because intermediate cleaning is unnecessary.

The drip preventer on the pump nozzle of the pump hose prevents the medium continuing to drip.

Metering disinfectants against Legionella

Task:
Disinfectants are to be metered with a gear pump and an integrated flowmeter and transferred into a ventilation system.

Customer's requirements:
- Metering accuracy:  +/- 10 ml
- Flow rate:  5 l/h
- Application several times a day

Solution:
Flow meter FMO 102
Evaluation electronics FLUXTRONIC®
Switching amplifier
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
The disinfectant is pumped into the ventilation system using a gear pump; the FLUX FMO 102 flow meter and the FLUXTRONIC® evaluation electronic perform the metering.

The FM 102 oval wheel counter offers the optimal solution in this situation, because it is capable of metering pure media – whether low-viscosity or high-viscosity – very accurately.

The FLUXTRONIC® evaluation electronics with switch amlifier offers two operating modes:
1. In "normal mode" it indicates the currently flowing volume of fluid.
2. In "automatic mode (batch mode)" a preprogrammed quantity of fluid can be retrieved at the push of a button and filled semi-automatically.

Manual metering of a wide variety of solvents from drums or IBCs

Task:
A wide variety of solvents – including flammable solvents – need to be removed from 200-l standard drums quickly and be filled into various containers.

Solution:
Drum pump FP 430 S Ex with mechanical seal
Commutator motor F 460 Ex
or: Pump-kit "for universal applications"
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
Our drum pumps are ideal for the rapid removal of low viscosity media – including solvents. These are simply placed in the fluids to be filled and are then immediately ready for use.

Drum pump F/FP 430 S with mechanical seal is the most suitable for frequent medium changes because the mechanical seal on the shaft prevents the medium from penetrating the inner pipe. The design, with mechanical seal, means that the drum pumps can also be disassembled and cleaned quickly and easily.

In particular in the case of solvents, compliance with explosion protection requirements is also frequently necessary. We offer specially certified drum pumps with explosion-safe motors (ex-motors) for this. Our pump nozzles, attached to the end of the hose, are particularly useful here, ensuring that the medium can be metered without any problems. Of course, a corresponding explosion protection certificate is also available for the hose and pump nozzles that can be used to remove flammable solvents as well.

Filling of cleaning agents

Task:
Acids and basic cleaning agents require filling directly into sales packs.

Solution:
Drum pump F 425 S for 99,98% drum emptying
Brushless motor FBM 4000 Ex
Evaluation electrinics FLUXTRONIC®
Switching amplifier
Filling unit FAE
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
Up to now the IBCs have been tipped to fill the sales packs by pouring. This always leaves behind significant amounts of residue in the supply containers however. This is to be avoided in the future.

The precise quantity of the sales packs was determined using scales.

Our semi-automatic filling system consisting of F 425 S drum pump, FMC flowmeter, FLUXTRONIC® evaluation electronics, switched-mode amplifier and the FAE filling unit is now used. In this system, the precise fill quantity can be predefined and filling can be done at the touch of a button. Once the set quantity is reached, the drum pump switches off automatically. Thus, in batch operation, predefined quantities can be filled automatically several times consecutively. Scales are only necessary for random checks.

The F 425 drum pump for 99.98% drum emptying features a built-in non-return device which can be closed if required. Once the drum is empty, the pump can be removed without the medium flowing back out of the pump. With the F 425 drum pump, less than 0.05 l of residue remains in a 200 l drum, so a maximum of 0.02%. This makes tipping the container to remove any residue no longer necessary.

Additional dosing of sulphuric acid in electroplating baths

Task:
Additional doses of sulphuric acid require adding to electroplating baths from small canisters. On this occasion, the customer required a pump for filling of small quantities. Since there was no power supply present, the customer required a battery-powered pump.

Solution:
COMBIFLUX FP 314
Battery Motor FBM-B 3100
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
Our small COMBIFLUX FB 314 drum pumps are ideal for smaller fill quantities and for filling from containers such as canisters. A quick coupler connects the motor to the pump meaning the motor can be removed from the pump quickly and easily. A low total weight is another distinguishing feature of the COMBIFLUX, meaning less effort is needed when changing drums.

Since no electric power supply was available in this case for the motor, we were able to use our FBM-B 3100 battery motor as an alternative.

The operator simply places the COMBIFLUX FP 314 with battery motor into the relevant container and can then dispense the sulphuric acid into the various electroplating baths with speed and mobility.

For an example, see our "Product Overview" brochure on page 8.

Filling of various high-viscosity silicone pastes

Task:
Various freshly made, high-viscosity pastes require filling from mixing tanks which are not accessible from above, into 25 kg buckets.

Solution:
F 550 S TR eccentric worm-drive pump, console-mounted
Three-phase motor with speed adjustment
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
Our F 550 / F 560 eccentric worm-drive pumps offer the perfect conditions for low to high-viscosity media. If mixing tanks are not accessible from above, as is the case here, our F 560 TR models are used. These are positioned on a console or other devices next to the container and are connected to the bottom outlet for filling.

One of the mixers built into the containers keeps the silicone paste moving so that the pump continues to run well and, unlike with high-viscosity media, no forced feeding is necessary.

A three-phase motor with variable speed setting was used. In particular, this means that the silicone paste can be pumped gently even outside the various viscosity ranges.

Filling of silicone oils

Task:
Silicone oils, with a viscosity of 5000 to 10,000 mPas require filling into 5 l buckets from 200 l drums.

Solution:
Eccentric worm-drive pump F 550 GS
Commutator motorF 457
Hose
For the application designed accessories on request

Application description:
Eccentric worm-drive pumps from the F 550 series for industrial applications are perfect for pumping high-viscosity media such as silicone oils. The eccentric worm-drive pumps work with low turbulence, under constant pressure and ensure gentle, pulsation-free pumping.

A filling device is supplied at room temperature by the F 550 GS eccentric worm-drive pump in the gear unit design. The 5 l buckets are then filled using scales. Alternatively, a FLUX flowmeter can also be used.

In combination with FLUXTRONIC® evaluation electronics, the filling and metering process of virtually all fluids is performed with maximum precision and the greatest possible safety.

Before introducing the F 550 GS eccentric worm-drive pump, the drums first had to be heated to approx. 80 °C otherwise it would not have been possible to pump the medium. Use of the FLUX eccentric worm-drive pump renders this additional process step unnecessary.

Additional benefits are that the F 550 GS eccentric worm-drive pump is lightweight, portable and is quick and easy to disassemble.
