As a family business with a rich tradition we have been conducting training since 1986. FLUX-GERÄTE GMBH is a certified training company of the chamber of commerce for the northern Black Forest region. 23 former trainees have been taken on and have remained loyal to the company to the present day.

Industrial mechanic

What makes this profession so varied?
More and more technical systems and plants are being used in industry and manufacturing. All of these need an industrial mechanic. During your vocational training as an industrial mechanic, you’ll be responsible for keeping manufacturing plants and other technical systems running, maintained and inspected. You can work in fields such as mechanical and plant engineering, plant maintenance, automation and production systems, and precision toolmaking.

What does this training teach you?
During your vocational training as an industrial mechanic, you’ll learn the following skills: how to put components and subassemblies together, how to install technical systems, and how to troubleshoot and retrofit plant equipment. You’ll also learn how to perform maintenance and inspection work, how to choose the right test methods, how to commission technical systems, and how to train users to operate the plant or facility.

Who are you looking for?
Apart from an interest in technical processes and machinery, candidates for training as an industrial mechanic need to be capable of careful, accurate work. You should also be team-oriented and physically fit and healthy.

Important school subjects

  • Physics (e.g. to understand the basic principles of electrical/control systems)
  • Maths (e.g. for calculating dimensions, volumes and angles for the manufacture of replacement parts)
  • IT (e.g. for work involving CNC machinery)

What’s the training format and how long does it last?
The dual study programme takes 3.5 years to complete, and you’ll work at a company and study at a vocational school.

What kind of school grades do I need?
You’ll need a good school leaving certificate (e.g. qualifying you for study at a vocational school).

What’s vocational training like at FLUX?New trainees start at the Technical Training Centre in Sternenfels. You’ll join trainees from other companies to learn the basic skills required by an industrial mechanic. After completing basic training, you’ll sharpen your skills by working at FLUX on tasks involving mechanical manufacturing, assembly and repairs. Apart from this on-the-job know-how, all trainees will acquire specialised expertise relevant to their profession during the course.

What options do I have for further qualifications after training?
Industrial mechanics can take further training or specialise in a variety of fields. The most popular options here include a master’s qualification (Meister) in metalworking or precision engineering, qualification as state-certified technician or business degree courses (Fachwirt, Betriebswirt).

Industrial administrator

What makes this profession so varied?
Industrial administrators are responsible for handling the business side of operational processes. In Finance, for example, you’ll be working on cost accounting jobs, in Sales you’ll be preparing quotations and involved in customer negotiations, and in Production you’ll be responsible for process and manufacturing workflows. In HR, you’ll be responsible for hiring new employees, producing personnel statistics or keeping the payroll rolling.

Industrial administrators are employed for a huge range of tasks where business know-how is needed. As they work with customers on the one hand and with suppliers, employees and top management on the other, they are key points of contact and communication in the company. Their work is very varied and comes with considerable responsibility.

What does this training teach you?
Topics covered during your training include how to procure goods, how to manage orders and delivery dates, how to compare quotations and how to estimate company requirements. You’ll also get an insight into business accounting for the production of goods and services – e.g. how costs are controlled and monitored, and which instruments can be used for cost planning.

What is important to you?
In your day-to-day work, you have a range of duties to perform and have operational responsibilities. You should be able to ‘think business’ and have an interest in tackling office or administrative tasks. You should be customer-oriented, have a good head for figures and data, and enjoy the kind of work that involves analysis and checking. A good industrial administrator also has an interest in business processes and works well as part of a team.

  • Economics (e.g. to understand transactions used in business)
  • English (useful e.g. for international customers or supplier contacts)
  • German (e.g. for working with HR documents or in written and oral customer communications)

What’s vocational training like at FLUX?Each trainee will receive a company-based training plan. Trainees work their way through all of the typical areas of a business, such as Purchasing, Sales (domestic/int’l), Marketing, HR and Accounts. Other indirectly relevant topics such as quality assurance, logistics, assembly, manufacturing and product management will also be covered, to ensure trainees acquire expertise beyond the know-how relevant to their profession.

What options do I have for further qualifications after training?
Industrial administrators can take further training or specialise in a variety of fields. The most popular options here include business degree courses (Fachwirt, Betriebswirt) or a business specialism (Fachkauffrau/mann). A range of subjects can be studied.

Internship at FLUX:

It's always worthwhile to get a taste of the real thing because this enables you to inform yourself about the requirements and structures of particular occupations and you can find out whether the overall occupational profile matches your preferences and abilities.

Internship Industrial Mechanic

The internship takes one week. During this time you pass through all the typical departments such as training workshop, mechanical and CNC manufacturing, assembly and repair. After completion you will receive an internship certificate.

If you are interested, then apply with a cover letter and your CV in writing. Your application should indicate the period in which you want to complete the internship. The number of internships, however, is limited.

As a rule training commences on 01/09 each year. You must apply as early as one year before training commences. The best time to submit your applications is during the summer vacation.
